Course Description
This course provides an in-depth review of pediatric orthopedic trauma and fracture management through clinical multiple-choice questions. Topics include supracondylar humerus fractures, elbow ossification and nerve injuries, diaphyseal femoral fractures, and ankle triplane fractures.
Learners will gain a detailed understanding of growth plate physiology, fracture fixation techniques (spica casting, Pavlik harness, titanium elastic nailing, submuscular plating), and the radiographic interpretation of pediatric injury patterns.
The course integrates current orthopedic guidelines and clinical reasoning to help residents and practitioners manage pediatric fractures confidently and appropriately based on patient age, weight, and fracture type.
What will you learn?
Recognize patterns and management principles of supracondylar humerus and pediatric femoral fractures.
Understand appropriate indications for spica casting, Pavlik harness, titanium elastic nails, and submuscular plating.
Identify nerve injuries and ossification sequence in pediatric elbow trauma.
Interpret triplane ankle fracture radiographs and distinguish Salter-Harris components by projection.
Apply evidence-based fracture fixation strategies according to age, weight, and fracture morphology.
